Zine reviews

Ok, I'll go first!

One zine I read recently that really struck me was Felicity Fenton's "User not found." It's a pretty compelling treatment of phone- and social media addiction-- a common enough topic lately, I guess-- but it's done in a lyrical, personal, humorous style that for me at least really hammered the points home.

Here are a few standout quotes for me:

"Once the internet was about excavation and discovery. Now we are lodged inside its intestines. I wonder if it's ever going to shit us out."

And:

"I question why I've ever wanted to share anything on the internet when it seems the sharing of things on the internet has reached its apex. There's little room left to breathe. I can't continue to squeeze myself into the din. I consider the earth storage it takes to house all of the sharing. Fossil fuels glug down my throat. I think of the conflict minerals inside me phone, slowly, sickly, morphing their remaining torture into an alert tone: a ding, a quack, a zen bowl."

It's a distinctive object, too. First, it's tiny --like 9 point font, 32 pages, 3.5" x 5". Second, it has some really nice touches, like rounded corners, and purple staples to match the illustration on the cover. It's put out by Future Tense Books in Portland, which apparently is run by the person who handles small pubs at Powell's.

Big Tim Thumbs Up!

Tim - do you have an image of the publication you could post? That would be great to see. Nice review. I am curious about the publication.
